BRINGING THE SPIRIT, MYSTERY & ALLURE OF OAXACA TO OHIO CITY.

The Hospitality group behind Market Garden Brewery wanted to create a transportive, high-energy experience wildly different from any other in the Ohio City neighborhood of Cleveland.

Paying homage to the grit and dive bar culture that Ohio City was founded on, the concept had to be raw and gritty, yet lively and visually interesting. It had to feel unique and different from both the upscale restaurants and casual American fare available elsewhere on the street.

Inspired by the edgy, gritty-chic mezcal bars of Mexico, where bartenders casually sling interesting craft cocktails and house pours to uptempo party vibes, clandestina was born.

Check out press coverage of the transformation here.

SEXY MEXICAN STREET FOOD. MEZCAL.
MAGICAL REALISM. MYSTERY.

Sixth Element helped craft this new hospitality concept from the ground up — from naming and identity all the way through design/build and digital expression.

Raw gritty elements of historic brick, creepy-cool paste-on street art from Oaxaca (a signature element of the city’s design fabric) and black spray paint meet celebratory multicolored accent lighting and bright pops of color — VIP nook, which is adorned with bright butterfly wallpaper inspired by the Mexican butterfly migrations.

Downstairs, the new weekend dance club Smoke & Mirrors (also branded and designed by Sixth Element) complements the mystery and allure of clandestina, with gritty-sexy EDM vibes amidst a crypt-like historic brick basement bar.
